About Alicia Graf Mack
Alicia Graf Mack is a luminary in the world of dance, celebrated for her artistry, leadership, and unwavering belief in the power of the arts to inspire, connect, and transform. Alicia is the Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, becoming the fourth director in the organization's history. Prior to her homecoming to AILEY, she served as the Dean and Director of Dance at The Juilliard School in New York City.
Raised in Columbia, Maryland, Ms. Graf Mack began her professional dance career with Dance Theatre of Harlem under the direction of Arthur Mitchell and went on to become a highly acclaimed principal ballerina. In 2005, she fulfilled a childhood dream, joining Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, led by the incomparable Judith Jamison. She also performed with Complexions Contemporary Ballet and made guest appearances with Alonzo King LINES Ballet. Her versatility led to collaborations with world-renowned artists including Beyoncé, John Legend, Andre 3000, Alicia Keys, and Jon Batiste, among others.
Ms. Graf Mack holds a BA in history from Columbia University (magna cum laude with honors) and an MA in nonprofit management from Washington University in St. Louis. She has received numerous honors, including the 2023 Dance Magazine Award, Columbia University's Medal for Excellence, an honorary doctorate from The Juilliard School, and Smithsonian Magazine's American Innovator in the Arts and Sciences recognition. In every role—director, performer, educator, and leader—Alicia Graf Mack brings a profound respect for legacy, a passion for cultivating talent, and a dynamic vision for the future.
