“Fault Lines” examines St. Louis’ history of redlining, exclusionary zoning, and inequitable urban planning. Drawing on the city’s spatial history and its environmental consequences (including pollutant exposure and unequal access to green space), the piece translates policy into embodied experience.

Rather than directly illustrating historical events, “Fault Lines” reveals how structural design continues to shape bodies, breath, and movement. The work gestures toward resilience, community organizing, and the ongoing struggle for environmental justice.

Perfection is often imagined as a flawless state–complete, without defect, the highest form of being  Yet, is such a state real or attainable? We all place ourselves in boxes to meet an unachievable standard. Often told to ‘fake it til we make it’, but is that good for our soul, and what does that pursuit do to our spirit? Does the idea itself push you closer to losing full control of who or what you want to be? Perhaps the real question isn’t whether perfection exists, but whether striving for it brings us closer to our true selves–or pulls us further away.

This piece is a cultural commentary on the abundance of voices and creators in the arts, yet how rather than actually saying something, there often seems to be a lot of noise. A discussion of creation within capitalism, of overproduction and overconsumption, of creating with meaning, of who we give platforms to, and all the other “He said, She said” mumbo jumbo.

EXPERIENCE The Language of Art

FEb 27-Mar 1 | Saint Louis Dance THEATRE WINTER SERIES

Johan Inger’s award-winning Walking Mad compellingly addresses how we navigate barriers—both physical and emotional. With dancers interacting dramatically with a transforming wall set piece, the choreography set to Ravel’s Boléro vividly explores how boundaries shape and reshape human relationships. Complemented by a world premiere from Kirven Douthit-Boyd, this performance explores the environments we occupy and how they mold our interactions.
